Our Home is seeking a Packing Machine Operator (PMO) to join our team.
The PMO is primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of the packing to assure that they are working properly.
They must possess leadership skills in handling the staff in the packaging room.
The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
The regular schedule for this role is M-F 5:30am - 3:30pm.
Responsibilities
- Check production schedule and determine what products will be running.
- Get necessary cello rolls from warehouse (using partial rolls first).
- Set coder and eye to correct position.
- Install correct code in printer and check to ensure code are printing.
- Set up spindle to hold cello and thread cello through machine as designed.
- Install correct former.
- Set drive belts.
- Clean pull belts as necessary.
- Install correct programs in Bagging machines and scales.
- Make required adjustments in computer set-up (eye, sticker, label, cut, pull, code, dump, speed, etc.).
- Set/adjust eyes above scales as necessary.
- Ensure correct seals, cuts, bag weights, air fill, code locations, label locations and sticker locations.
- Make minor repairs as necessary.
- Notify maintenance and supervisor for major repairs.
- Work with group leader and packers to ensure smooth production.
- Keep packing machines running smoothly and respond promptly and professionally to calls from packers.
- Communicate with co-workers to ensure good product is not wasted.
- Empty machines of unacceptable product as necessary and between product changes.
- Catch and dump product as necessary.
- Keep work area clean.
- Assist packaging team during breaks and packs when necessary.
- Train new machine operators.
- Sweep top at end of shift and empty white tubs of crumbs.
- Communicate with operators coming on next shift.
- Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position
- Work with management and fellow associates to ensure Food Safety programs are followed.
- Report food, office or operational safety problems to a supervisor or manager for initiating action.
- Perform other duties as assigned that will impact and support the overall outcome of the company and department objectives.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell.
- Able to lift/move up to 80 lbs.
- Specific vision includes the following: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts; loud work environment
- All employees are responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality, safety issues, or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.
- All employees are responsible for upholding the principles of SQF Food Safety Code.
- 2-4 years related experience and training preferred.
- Able to make changes quickly and accurately.
- Must be available and dependable for occasional overtime (coming in early or staying later) and Saturday work.
- Must be willing to perform duties assigned by supervisor or group leader
