With more than 2.5 million volunteers already enrolled and an ambition to reach 5 million participants, we're creating an unparalleled research resource that will transform our understanding of disease prevention, early detection and healthy ageing.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Population Health Scientist / Senior Epidemiologist to join our Science team and help unlock the full potential of this extraordinary dataset. This is an important new role which will help us broaden the audience for Our Future Health data, including researchers, charities, population health professionals, health planners and policy makers. Using data from Our Future Health’s questionnaires, linkage to health records and genetic information, we aim to produce population health insights to showcase the capabilities of the data to researchers and other data users as well as highlight key aspects of population health such as health inequalities and the impacts of the wider determinants of health. The role will also contribute to applying a common data model which will be made available to researchers using Our Future Health to support their work.
You'll play a leading role in producing high-quality analyses that demonstrate the scientific value of Our Future Health, inform future research, and support better decision-making across healthcare, public health and policy. Working closely with the Director of Population Health Insights and colleagues across Science, Data and Product teams, you will:
- Lead and deliver population health analyses using one of the UK's most valuable health research datasets.
- Generate robust, policy-relevant insights into disease prevention, early detection, health inequalities and the wider determinants of health.
- Help develop innovative scientific data products and analytical resources that support researchers using Our Future Health.
- Contribute to the development and application of our common data model, improving consistency and usability for the research community.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, product specialists and external academic partners to ensure analytical quality and scientific rigour.
- Translate complex analyses into compelling outputs including scientific reports, briefing papers, blogs, media content and presentations.
- Represent Our Future Health with researchers, charities, NHS organisations, policymakers and other external stakeholders.
We're looking for someone who combines strong epidemiological expertise with a passion for translating complex data into meaningful health insights. You'll likely have:
- A PhD (or equivalent experience) in epidemiology, population health, biostatistics, statistics or a related discipline.
- Significant experience analysing large, complex health datasets.
- Excellent knowledge of epidemiological methods and statistical analysis.
- Strong programming skills using R, Python and/or Stata.
- Experience communicating research findings to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience contributing to scientific publications and conference presentations.
You'll be motivated by applying rigorous science to questions that have genuine public health impact.
Closing date for applications: 9am, Thursday 16th July.
