The Team

KPMG is part of a global network of firms that through 16,000 colleagues brings creativity and insight to meeting our clients’ most critical challenges. With offices across the UK, we work with everyone from enterprises to national government bodies and major multinationals, in virtually every industry imaginable. Our work is often complex, yet our vision is simple: to be the clear choice for our clients, for our people and for the communities we work in. KPMG UK’s Infrastructure Government and Healthcare business is widely recognised as a leading financial and commercial adviser across the public sector. This advice, amongst other things, ranges from major system design, economic case making, cost and value work, transaction support, design of efficient operational process and technology enablement. Our purpose is to support the projects that improve the fabric of our nation, and other nations around the world trying to improve the economic functioning and social wellbeing of their society. Our healthcare advisory business is a critical plank in that. Healthcare is undergoing rapid change. The needs of an ageing population are becoming more complex, treatments more administratively complex, and technology adoption critical to its effective implementation. Our team advises across that – we are amongst the market leaders in service transformation, capital project delivery and technology implementation.

The Role

We are looking for an Associate Director to work in our team focussed on transformation, value for money and cost management in the public sector with a core focus on healthcare but with opportunity to grow into education, local government and defence if desired by the candidate. The team is part of the wider healthcare advisory business and has significant prospects for growth. Delivery of that growth offers clear routes to further progression within KPMG. The team focusses on identifying and delivering value for money as well as short- and long-term efficiency savings within a healthcare setting whether driven by investments or service change, supporting senior NHS leaders with tough challenges.

The role is a central part of our team, with day-to-day responsibility for our client engagements and business development activity including:

  • Leading the delivery of client engagements;
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships;
  • Driving input from internal teams and external advisers;
  • Providing subject matter expertise;
  • Ensuring the production of high quality documentation and presentations;
  • Driving business development including network development and proposals;
  • Developing sector specific market intelligence;
  • Introducing new ideas to the team and inspiring the team to do the same;
  • Engagement administration, compliance and risk management;
  • Performance management, coaching and mentoring of managers;
  • Any other duties commensurate with the role.

The role is UK based, although there will be opportunities for international travel and we are interested in individuals with a global mindset.

The Person

The person would be expected to demonstrate most of the following characteristics. KPMG is a training organisation so is interested in hearing from a broad pool of applicants and helping them develop in the next stage of their careers.

  • Strong experience of healthcare as a sector;
  • Strong report writing experience, such as experience in NHS business cases for investment;
  • Experience of service transformation, benefits quantification, or value for money analysis;
  • Experience in reviews of poor financial performance, right sizing of teams, financial grip and control, planning for productivity and efficiency improvements;
  • Experience or interest in economic modelling and financial analysis;
  • Experienced presenting to senior management or executive teams;
  • Project management experience for major transformation programmes;
  • Working knowledge of financing structures and related commercial considerations;
  • Familiarity with public procurement processes;
  • Experience of dialogue with companies, investors, internal and external stakeholders;
  • Independent thinker with the ability to identify and contribute to solving problems;
  • Collaborative and belief in doing the best;
  • Experience of working in and managing teams.

If you hit all, most or even some of these attributes we would be delighted to hear from you. We welcome applications from those seeking flexible working patterns.
