About the Role
We are looking for a talented Production Manager to join our team to contribute to the growth of OUP by driving the successful planning, creation, and delivery of all products within time, scope and budget. The successful candidate will manage the development and performance of the Production team, grow and strengthen OUP’s supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations strategy and planning
- Contributed to OUPANZ and Operations Group strategy for Production.
- Contribute to content strategies and workflow improvements
- Actively supported new initiatives and process improvement projects
- Instigated process improvements to support improved outcomes
- Demonstrates effective Supplier Relationship Management with full supplier base
- Manages supplier performances to ensure ongoing improvement
- Capacity planning for internal resources and suppliers involved in production process
- Attended and actively contribute to team meetings and workshops.
- Ensures first costs, manufacturing costs and additional costs are maintained within budget
- Budgets prepared in ACE are regularly reviewed and corrective action taken as required
- Budgets have been authorised
- Project budgets are successfully presented at publishing meetings as part of the proposal presentation.
- Project budgets, at all stages of development, are maintained with key internal stakeholders, revised, and approved in a timely way to ensure schedules were not impacted.
- Work in consultation with Procurement colleagues to achieve best service, quality, and price.
- In consultation with internal stakeholders assessed timing requirements and developed schedules for publishing proposals.
- Projects schedules were accurate, within ACE/Smartsheet and SAP, and projects delivered to agreed schedules
- Project information and issues efficiently communicated
- Projected are delivered to specification
- Demonstrated full accountability for on-time project delivery of all projects managed by production.
People
- Team feels supported, trained and sufficiently resourced to deliver the department’s output.
- Regular 1:1s and performance reviews, issues resolution is resolved as appropriate
- The right training strategy is in place

- Work effectively with key in-house stakeholders during the production and development process.
- Developed and demonstrated good working relationships with internal stakeholders across Operations, Publishing, and across the broader OUPANZ and global teams.
- Communication with internal and external stakeholders ensuring best understanding of requirements and desired outcomes are achieved.
- Revisions to budgets and schedules are negotiated, agreed and communicated effectively and in a timely manner.
- Contributed to continuous improvement of workflows and processes.
- Identify systems and process improvements and execute them.
About You
- High proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with supplier management
- Understanding of the editing and publishing process
- Excellent people relationship skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills and an ability to prioritise work and meet conflicting deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in production
- Post-secondary qualification
- Experience effectively managing a team
- Knowledge of the Australian education market
- Experience in educational publishing industry or related field
- Highly flexible working environment
- Two work-from-home days per week and rostered Friday afternoons off (fortnightly)
