About the Role

We are looking for a talented Assistant Editor to join our Primary ELT Editorial Team who will be responsible for producing English language teaching materials, either in book, audio-visual, electronic form, stand alone or package, for the target market that are accurate, attractive, achieve a market schedule and are appropriate for that market, in order to achieve high levels of profit for the company, while maintaining the highest possible publishing standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Product knowledge - Clear understanding of market requirements is demonstrated. Education Bureau/Examination Authority syllabi are understood. Product knowledge is in-depth and accurately disseminated to sales and marketing personnel.
  • Desk editing - Straightforward editorial tasks are handled responsibly and independently. Work carried out meets the requirements specified by supervisors. Reduced supervisor correction and guidance is required. Responsibility for frequent, ongoing liaison and communication with Assistant Editors and team, managers, ELT SMT, Design, EM, and Production ensures smooth progress of own projects. Appropriate ELT materials are produced to the highest standard possible, on schedule and on budget.
  • Organization and management - Clear, accurate project and task records are maintained and easily accessed by supervisors and managers. Pre-determined publication dates are realized.
  • Maintenance of market share - Ongoing collaboration and communication with EM. Market reaction to established products in the backlist is studied. Awareness of the need for a generation of new editions is demonstrated to supervisors and managers. Highest possible market share is maintained and expanded.
  • Accuracy and relevance of market research - Contribution to the formulation of market research plans. Active participation in school visits. Teacher network is developed and maintained. Understanding of competitors' materials is demonstrated. Market research is analyzed and disseminated.
  • Knowledge and skills' acquisition and sharing - Active involvement in training workshops and sharing sessions in line with managers' instructions. Responsibility for own learning and development is taken.
  • Flexibility, willingness and efficiency - Active involvement in training workshops and sharing sessions in line with managers' instructions. Responsibility for own learning and development is taken.
  • Increase brand awareness and respect for the brand - Promote Oxford University Press and its product lines both during and outside office hours at, e.g., seminars, book exhibitions, conferences, schools, professional associations, Spring dinners, author's parties, etc.
