Oundle School Sports Centre is seeking a Duty Supervisor – an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and motivated individual looking to take the next step in their leisure career.

The Role

We are seeking an organised and proactive individual to support the day-to-day operation of the Sports Centre in this role. As the senior staff member on duty, you will play a key part in ensuring the smooth running of daily activities, providing guidance to the leisure team, and upholding the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and customer care. This position represents an excellent progression route for someone currently working as a Leisure Assistant, Lifeguard, or in another frontline leisure role, who is ready to develop their supervisory skills and broaden their operational experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to customer care, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere throughout the Centre.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking general lifeguarding duties (It is essential to hold a NPLQ qualification)
  • Coordinating activity spaces
  • Maintaining high levels of housekeeping
  • Ensuring adherence to operational procedures and safety standards

You will also contribute to the ongoing development of our services and may take the lead on specific operational or administrative focus areas in line with the needs of the Centre. To excel in this role, you will be confident, adaptable, and calm under pressure, with the ability to use your initiative while working collaboratively as part of a wider team. A commitment to safeguarding, professionalism, and high-quality service delivery is essential. In addition, candidates who hold the relevant RLSS qualification may be asked to assist in the delivery of monthly staff training sessions. This responsibility is supplementary to the core duties of the role and provides a valuable opportunity to earn additional income alongside the base salary.

The School & The Centre

Oundle and Laxton Junior Schools have long been associated with the very best of modern independent education, especially boarding. The Schools take seriously their responsibility to pupils so that they can emerge as decent, open-minded adults; ambitious about what they can go on to achieve and contribute. A team of around 800 staff, both academic and support, ensure an education of the highest standard is in place across the Schools with the efforts of the whole team focused on this fundamental aim. As well as providing new and improved facilities for the School’s pupils, the new Sports Centre facility has been designed to allow increased access to local residents, sports clubs and Schools. After accommodating the educational and social demands of the pupils, the School is eager to develop wider access to the Centre and encourages participation by the local community in a range of Sports and Leisure activities organised and managed by the Centre’s staff.

Our State of the Art Sports Centre offers a wide range of classes, fitness facilities and activities on a commercial basis, as well as numerous courses, children’s holiday clubs and organised parties. Our facilities include a 50-metre swimming pool, an 8-court hall, a 70-station fitness suite, a dedicated dance studio and three further multipurpose studios.

Living In Oundle

We are fortunate in our location at the heart of a beautiful market town. School and town are part of the same community and our pupils take their place within this community, not isolated from it. The town has a spirited cultural life, with an annual international festival, literature festival, and frequent performances of nationally touring shows at the School’s Stahl Theatre.

Oundle School and Laxton Junior School are proud to be equal opportunity employers and we welcome applications from all. We aim to ensure that all applicants are provided with the same opportunities during the recruitment process, and we endeavour to comply with the duties placed upon us to make reasonable adjustments as prescribed by the Equality Act 2010. Should you need to request a particular adjustment to enable you to participate fully in the recruitment process, please ensure that this is made known to the HR Department. Both Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
