Oulton Abbey is an independent residential and nursing home with capacity for 49 residents in the village of Oulton, part of the picturesque Moddershall Valley, 2 miles north of Stone. The current home was purpose built in the grounds of Oulton Abbey, the home of an order of Benedictine Nuns in 2017. It offers modern amenities with en-suite facilities in all bedrooms, onsite kitchen with all meals cooked from scratch and beautiful communal rooms for activities and meals. The Nuns set up the original care home over 30 years ago in part of their convent and have continued to offer care and respite to residents from all walks of life including many local people as well as priests and nuns. The home has a catholic ethos and has its own chapel and priest; however, residents from all faiths or none are welcomed to the home. The home was awarded a “Good” rating by the CQC at their last inspection in 2019.
The home and estate are managed by a board of Trustees and is run as a charity.
Job Purpose:
To serve as the General Manager with overall responsibility for the effective running of the 49-bed residential and nursing home and the wider Oulton Abbey estate. The General Manager provides strategic and operational leadership, working closely with specialist staff including the Matron (Registered Manager), Deputy Matron and Finance Officer. The role requires strong oversight across care home operations, estate management and team leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Managing all aspects of finance in relation to the care home and wider estate including setting budgets, payroll, invoicing, expenditure and ensuring value for money and the financial viability of the Home.
- Ensure all standards required by regulatory bodies are exceeded.
- All aspects of HR Management including safe recruitment and retention, appraisals (excluding Clinical Staff), employee relations, salary reviews and ensuring all staff are trained to meet the mandatory requirements to work in a care home.
- Work with the Matron (Registered Manager) to ensure the home runs at full capacity and offers a person-centred approach for its residents.
- In the absence of Registered Manager / Clinical Lead to ensure adequate staffing levels throughout the home.
- Actively market the care home within the local community and further afield including to local social services and the NHS.
- Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety and internal audits relevant to the care home are monitored and where necessary updated and staff have appropriate training.
- Ensure all policies and procedures in relation to the effective and safe running of the care home are in place and updated as required in conjunction with the Matron.
- Working with the Matron ensure all safeguarding procedures including MCA and DOLS (to be updated to Liberty Protection Safeguard) are in place and adhered to and staff receive training as necessary.
- To coordinate the management of the wider estate of Oulton Abbey on behalf of the Trustees including its rental properties, farm, tenancies, the church, presbytery, grounds, and old abbey building. This includes but is not limited to landlord responsibilities for our tenants and the health and safety of the site.
- To provided regular updates to the Trustees of Oulton Abbey and attend regular meetings.
