My client, an established and well respected family run Funeral Directors in Basingstoke, are seeking a dedicated and motivated Funeral Operative to join their team. This position requires someone with excellent communication skills and an empathetic approach. Attitude is more important than experience as full training will be given, but you must have a full driving licence and be comfortable with heavy lifting.
Responsibilities of the Funeral Operative:
- Attending funerals as a bearer and driver
- On a call‑out rota to collect the deceased from the place of death (24‑hour operation, expected to take a turn on average one week in 3; allowance paid for being on call and for each callout)
- Care of the deceased, including recording of information, and responsibility for their belongings
- Cleaning and maintaining company vehicles
- Meeting with families to discuss funerals and addressing any questions
- Working within the funeral directors, assisting the embalmer, and constructing coffins and caskets
- Checking flowers have arrived
Requirements:
- A full driving licence
- Availability to be on call on a rota basis
- Be within 15 minutes of the office with a means of transport to attend night time call out when required
- A positive attitude, professional approach and willingness to learn new skills
- Excellent communication skills including empathy
- Organised, computer literate, with excellent attention to detail and ability to multi‑task and prioritise
