Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hands‑on Trainee Lift Repairs Engineer to join our repair team. This role is ideal for someone looking to start or develop a career in the lift and escalator industry. You will work alongside experienced engineers to learn how to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of lift equipment safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified engineers with the repair and refurbishment of lift systems.
- Support fault finding and troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical components.
- Carry out basic repair tasks under supervision, including parts replacement and adjustments.
- Learn to read and interpret technical drawings and service manuals.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with company procedures and industry safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out.
- Keep tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working order.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and occasionally customers.
- Adhere strictly to health & safety regulations at all times.
Training & Development
- Structured on‑the‑job training with experienced engineers.
- Opportunity to work towards industry‑recognised qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering).
- Progressive development into a fully qualified Lift Repairs Engineer role.
Requirements
Essential:
- Strong interest in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Basic IT and communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Desirable:
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering).
- Previous experience in engineering, maintenance, or construction environments.
- Basic understanding of tools and equipment.
- Personal attributes: reliable, punctual, positive attitude, strong work ethic, team player, proactive approach, safety‑conscious mindset, flexible and adaptable.
