Overview

We are seeking a motivated and hands‑on Trainee Engineer to join our repair team.

This role is ideal for someone looking to start or develop a career in the escalator industry.

You will work alongside experienced engineers to learn how to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of escalator equipment safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified engineers with the repair and refurbishment of lift systems.
  • Support fault finding and troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical components.
  • Carry out basic repair tasks under supervision, including parts replacement and adjustments.
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings and service manuals.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with company procedures and industry safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work carried out.
  • Keep tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working order.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and occasionally customers.
  • Adhere strictly to health & safety regulations at all times.
  • Training & Development

Structured on‑job training with experienced engineers.

Opportunities to work towards industry‑recognised qualifications such as NVQ Level3 in Lift Engineering.

Progressive development into a fully qualified Lift Repairs Engineer role.

Requirements

Essential

  • Strong interest in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic IT and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Desirable

  • Relevant engineering qualification (e. g. Level2/3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering).
  • Previous experience in engineering, maintenance, or construction environments.
  • Basic understanding of tools and equipment.
  • Career Progression

This role offers a clear pathway to becoming a fully qualified Engineer, with opportunities to progress into senior engineering or supervisory roles within the business.
