The Associate Director, Metals Trading Research position is within the Metals & Mining group with the S&P Global Energy organization. The Metals & Mining group provides data and research on the entire mining value chain from exploration and mine pipelines through demand and price forecasting.

In this role, she/he will be partnering closely with the Director, Head of Metals Trading Research in Singapore, plus other analysts around the world, Data Analytics team and Product Management teams. The key focus will be providing insights, analysis, analytical commentary and interpretation of current and future trends in the Metals markets based on data-driven analytics and comprehensive demand and supply models.

Key Requirements:
  • Play a key role in developing and maintaining market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Energy’ Metals Trading Research product.
  • Create market scenarios and actionable insights for Metals Trading Research.
  • Drive visibility for S&P Global Energy’ clients into the dynamics of physical trade in Metals commodities markets.
  • Provide analysis, analytical commentary and interpretation of current and future trends in Metals commodities including supply and demand analysis.
  • Communicate insights to clients through published notes, presentations, calls, emails and meetings with clients and prospects.
  • Partnering closely with Director, Head of Metals Trading Research, plus other analysts around the world, Data Analytics team and Product Management teams.
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities as assigned based on priorities for team in order to meet/exceed requirements. Meet completion dates and provide input to manager regarding progress.
  • Support new business development by performing ad hoc analysis tasks.
  • Conduct original research and data mining to identify interesting, potentially marketable, findings in our data.
  • Document research processes to establish internal standards.
  • Work with Sales teams on analysis of reports and how to communicate appropriate information to the customer.
Role and Responsibilities:
  • 5-15 years total commodity market experience with 5+ years experiences in Metals market analytics experience. The role will require good level understanding of market structure and trade dynamics.
  • Experience in physical and paper trading will be beneficial.
  • Technical/academic background in data analytics, machine learning and economic forecasting models will be beneficial.
  • Expert knowledge of Metals commodities market analysis and demand and supply drivers based on strong understanding of macroeconomics.
  • Excellent numeracy/written skills and comfortable working with large data sets from unstructured sources.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Professional communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with global S&P Global teams across different time zones whilst simultaneously carrying out independent tasks and activities.
  • Highly skilled in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in Tableau and Power BI will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or Python preferred.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, in a relevant subject.
