Permanent Project Engineer roles, based in Portishead, North Somerset.

Your new role: The Project Engineer will report directly to the assigned Senior Project Engineer and will be responsible for producing the technical solutions, designs and engineering of all onsite lifting operations, receiving transportation, load-out, marine transportations and load-ins. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in engineering of hydraulic gantry installations and crane lifting projects. Other role aspects may include the engineering and planning of transportation projects (using SPMT and modular conventional), barge load-outs and load-ins, jack and skid installations.
The Project Engineer is accountable for:
- Acting as a point of contact for the customer and site operation teams
- Using their expertise to devise smart engineering solutions for heavy lifting and transportation projects
- Conducting site visits and providing conceptual solutions for lifting operations
- Preparing and selecting both existing and renewed engineering statements
- Developing drawings, calculations, visualisations, manuals, risk assessments and other key documents
- Ensuring efficient execution that delivers the right results for the customer with particular focus on safety and quality
- Ensuring high levels of document quality and document control throughout the lifecycle of the project
- Attending site visits to assess customer requirements, along with attendance during operations (UK or abroad) to manage and motivate the team
- Supporting the project on-site and associated developments where required through presence on site
- Adhering to Osprey’s management systems within your area of responsibility
- Being responsible for the Health, Safety and Environmental aspects affecting self, employees, and activities in your control
- Other duties which the Company may reasonably require the individual to undertake
What you’ll need to succeed: The successful candidate will have:
Essential criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related discipline or demonstrable industry experience
- CSCS Appointed Person
- A minimum 5 years’ experience of being able to work and manage large scale construction projects
- Relevant experience in heavy lift transport, shipping or lifting markets with evidence of delivering targets and achieving objectives
- Experience with road transportation in all configurations
- Experience with lifting operations, using mobile cranes, tower and crawler cranes
- Proven experience of acting as an engineer with a direct customer interface
- Knowledge and experience of technical codes and standards
- Technical skills experience
- Demonstrate behaviours and attributes; high level of self-motivation and self-management ability, good clear concise communicator – written and verbal
- Must be able to work as part of a team
- Able to learn new techniques and procedures and be able to solve ad-hoc problems quickly with clearly defined solutions
- Quality and detail focus, right-first-time approach
- Able to adapt communication style to suit the audience (site operator – client – managers and supervisors)
- Effective planner with a proactive nature
Desirable criteria:
- Master’s degree in an engineering related discipline
- IOSH Working Safely / IOSH Managing Safely / CSCS Safety Passport
- Proven experience of developing and delivering engineering solutions in the heavy lift industry
- Proven experience in derivation from first principles applicable engineering, proofs of concept for transportation, lifting, marine
- Experience with gantry lift systems, jack & skid systems and working knowledge of other method of installations (e.g., climbing jacks / vertical tower jacking systems and strand jacks)
- Experience with RoRo operations
- Experience with SPMT equipment in all configurations
- Knowledge and experience of HPC lifting standards
- Flexible and willing to travel
- Current valid driving licence
- Current valid passport, no restrictions
