About Us
We are the world's leading provider of non-welded piping solutions, operating across the oil and gas, marine, offshore, industrial, and power generation sectors. With a global network of operations and a reputation for precision, quality, and technical excellence, we deliver complete piping systems from design and fabrication through to installation and commissioning to some of the world's most demanding industrial environments. Our Wakefield operation supports a broad range of UK-based projects, combining workshop fabrication with on-site installation capability.
Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced MIG/TIG Welder to join our team at our Wakefield facility. This is a dual-environment role, combining workshop-based fabrication with on-site welding activities across customer sites throughout the UK. The successful candidate will be a competent, quality-conscious welder with proven experience across both MIG and TIG processes, working primarily on stainless steel, carbon steel, and associated materials in a precision industrial environment. A commitment to quality, safety, and first-time-right workmanship is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out MIG and TIG welding operations in both workshop and on-site environments, producing high-quality welds to approved weld procedures and specifications.
- Weld a range of materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, and exotic alloys to the required standard, working from engineering drawings, isometric sketches, and weld procedure specifications (WPS).
- Fabricate and assemble pipework spools, sub-assemblies, and structural components in the workshop prior to site installation.
- Carry out on-site welding activities at customer premises across the UK, working as part of a project team or independently as required.
- Perform pre-weld preparation including cutting, grinding, bevelling, and fit-up of components to ensure correct joint geometry prior to welding.
- Conduct visual inspection of completed welds and carry out self-inspection checks in line with quality procedures, WPS requirements, and applicable standards.
- Support NDT activities including dye penetrant testing (DPT) and radiographic test preparation as required.
- Maintain welding equipment and associated tooling in good working order, reporting defects or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Complete all relevant job documentation accurately, including weld logs, inspection records, and job cards.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, site permit to work requirements, and quality management systems at all times.
- Work collaboratively with pipefitters, project engineers, and site supervisors to ensure project delivery to time, quality, and budget.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience as a MIG and TIG welder in an industrial, oil and gas, petrochemical, or precision engineering environment.
- Current or recent welding code qualifications to BS EN ISO 9606 or ASME IX on stainless steel and/or carbon steel.
- Ability to weld to approved Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) and produce consistent, high-quality welds.
- Experience welding on pipework, spools, or tube assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, isometric sketches, and weld symbols.
- Strong understanding of weld preparation, fit-up, and distortion control.
- Experience working on customer sites as well as in a fabrication workshop environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- CCNSG or CSCS Safety Passport.
Desirable:
- Experience with orbital TIG welding.
- Knowledge of exotic alloys including duplex, super duplex, Inconel, or titanium.
- Silver brazing or soft soldering experience.
- Offshore or COMAH site experience.
- IPAF/MEWP licence.
- Confined space certification.
- Experience with non-welded piping systems (e.g. Lockring, Swagelok, Parker).
- NVQ Level 3 in Welding or equivalent.
Personal Attributes
- Quality-focused with a first-time-right approach to all welding activities.
- Self-motivated and capable of managing workload effectively both in the workshop and on customer sites.
- Methodical and detail-oriented, with a consistent commitment to producing work to the highest standard.
- Flexible and adaptable – comfortable switching between workshop fabrication and field-based site work.
- Strong communicator who works effectively as part of a multi-discipline project team.
- Safety-conscious with a proactive approach to risk identification and compliance with permit to work systems.
- Willing to travel to customer sites across the UK as required, including overnight stays.
