The role

You’ll represent our client on customer sites and keep laboratory fume cupboards, safety cabinets and extract systems safe, compliant and reliable. The work is varied: you could be at a secondary school one day and a university research lab or hospital the next.

What you’ll be doing

  • Carrying out planned servicing and COSHH Regulation 9 / LEV examinations on fume cupboards, recirculatory filtration cabinets and safety cabinets
  • Doing performance testing such as face velocity and containment checks, and recording the results accurately
  • Finding and fixing mechanical, electrical and airflow faults, including fans, controls, alarms, sashes and ductwork
  • Replacing filters and parts, and carrying out remedial work
  • Helping install and commission new equipment on lab projects
  • Producing clear service reports and compliance certificates
  • Following site safety rules, including permits, risk assessments and method statements
  • Giving customers practical advice and spotting opportunities for upgrades or replacements

What our client is looking for

  • A background as a field service engineer, maintenance engineer or HVAC/ventilation engineer, or in a similar technical role
  • Sound mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
  • An understanding of airflow, extraction or LEV systems, or a willingness to learn (full training is provided)
  • Confidence working on your own, managing your day and talking to customers professionally
  • Good attention to detail when testing and writing reports
  • A full UK driving licence

Nice to have

  • Experience with fume cupboards, safety cabinets or laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of BS EN 14175 or COSHH LEV testing, or a P601 qualification
  • An electrical qualification, such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3
