Job Description
We are looking to recruit a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in Hessle on a contract basis. The Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of electrical engineering in relation to specific project work and the utilisation of the discipline resources, liaising directly with our Engineering Manager and the Functional Manager – Head of Department based in Aberdeen. The role will ensure project work is completed on time and to the correct technical quality. Outside of their discipline role, there will be interface with other disciplines, Projects Delivery, Sales, Resourcing and direct interfaces with clients and vendors.
Responsibilities
- Act as authority on resolution of discipline and project technical issues.
- Ensure the company keeps up to date with technical developments and changes to national / international standards and relevant legislation.
- Liaison and interfacing with the Function Manager – Head of Discipline.
- Monitor and maintain a high level of quality in technical deliverables, ensuring that the Company’s QMS standards are met and is consistent technically.
- Must be willing to strive for the team to do it right first time.
- Review the QMS guides and methodologies as they are used by the department and to maintain adherence to the QMS checking / approval procedure.
- Maintain the department’s skills and competency matrix.
- Approval of electrical engineering documentation, inclusive of drawings, calculations, technical reports and risk assessments.
- Ensure electrical design work and installation conforms to Standards, Regulations and Health & Safety.
- Review documentation produced by other disciplines and provide detailed comments.
- Review of vendor’s documents, drawings, datasheets, specification and calculations.
- Provide weekly project and workload updates as required by the Project’s reporting requirements.
- On Site electrical commissioning of projects (if required).
Skills and Experience Required
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering accepted).
- Chartered Engineer preferred.
- Demonstration of keeping up to date with modern practices (i.e. Continued Professional Development).
- Membership to a recognised professional body / institute (such as: Institute of Engineering & Technology).
- Minimum of 15 years Oil & Gas, petrochemical, energy or chemical design experience within an engineering consultancy, design house or contracting business, preferably across all stages of a project (Concept/Feasibility, FEED and Detailed Design).
- Minimum of 5 years as a Senior Discipline Engineer on design of projects with a reputable engineering consultancy or EPC(M) contractor.
Qualifications
- Ability to multitask and manage the electrical design team.
- Ability to work on multiple projects.
- Project involvement from concept to close out.
- Able to travel to and work on a number of client sites as necessary.
- Knowledge of offshore regulations, Safety Cases, ATEX, cabling and equipment.
- Extremely self‑driven individual who can work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Have strong working knowledge of key international electrical design codes and standards, inclusive of British Standards and European EN codes.
- Excellent LV and HV (to 11kV) knowledge.
- Knowledge of 33kV preferred.
- Excellent protection settings knowledge.
- Ability to read, interpret and create electrical design drawings.
- Very good commercial awareness.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Coaching and mentoring skills.
- Planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to set and manage department goals and to motivate others to achieving such goals.
- Enthusiasm to contribute to business development.
- Excellent knowledge of Trimble (Amtech) Design calculation package.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- Knowledge is electrical modelling software.
