The Facilities Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-presented working environment across the Salfords site, including manufacturing, engineering, office, and welfare areas. The role supports day-to-day facilities activities, ensuring that minor maintenance tasks, housekeeping standards, and general site upkeep are carried out efficiently and in line with company health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning & Housekeeping
    • Carry out daily cleaning of offices, welfare facilities, rest areas, and general site areas
    • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across production, engineering, and common areas
    • Manage waste collection and segregation in line with site requirements
    • Replenish consumables (e.g. soap, paper towels, etc.)
  • Facilities & Maintenance Support
    • Carry out basic maintenance tasks (e.g. changing light bulbs, minor repairs, furniture moves)
    • Support site set-up for meetings, training, or audits
    • Assist with internal moves and workspace adjustments
    • Undertake basic checks and report any defects or issues to Facilities
  • Site Upkeep
    • Ensure external areas are kept clean, tidy, and safe (e.g. litter picking, bin areas)
    • Support seasonal requirements (e.g. gritting during winter conditions)
    • Maintain storage areas and ensure safe access/egress routes are clear
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Work in accordance with site health and safety procedures
    • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely (COSHH awareness)
    • Report hazards, near misses, or unsafe conditions
    • Follow safe systems of work and instructions provided

This role is intended to support general cleaning, housekeeping, and minor maintenance activities only.

The Cleaner / Handyman is not responsible for:

  • Specialist maintenance tasks (e.g. electrical, gas, structural, or technical repairs)
  • Work requiring formal qualifications, permits, or specialist competency
  • Contractor-level activities or project work

Qualifications
