MISSION
The Production Planner is responsible for pre-planning, scheduling and coordinating of sales orders and production jobs to manufacture a range of sub-assemblies up to complete integrated navigational bridges for Naval customers. The work includes assessing customer demand, material availability and extensively using OSI’s ERP system (Epicor) to create and manage production jobs through their complete lifecycle. There is extensive coordination required between departments and international locations; this role will also be responsible for performing aspects of inventory management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, implements & documents all production and supply chain processes required to ship sales orders to our customers.
- Works with the purchasing manager, production manager, project managers (PM) and coordinators (PC), and production team leader(s) to determine a production schedule for order requirements.
- Provides pre-production planning for work orders, with regard to availability of materials, released drawings and released Bills of Materials (BOMs), taking into account tooling, equipment and facilities, using current methods available in the company.
- Provides input into rough-cut capacity planning and resource requirement analysis.
- Performs data analysis to determine material supply and finished goods demand.
- Required to perform various functions of inventory management which may include but is not limited to: receiving, inspection, put-away, picking, issuing, counting, and shipping.
- Follows-up, as required, with all teams to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet sales order ship schedule and customer expectations.
- Interacts with shop floor management, on a daily basis, to resolve issues regarding manufacturing efficiencies or additional information as requested from Manufacturing, Customer Service, Accounting and other departments.
- Co-ordinates Change Notices (CNs) updates on Work-In-Process (WIP), inventory items and outstanding Purchase Orders (POs) to ensure the CN dispositions are implemented on a timely basis, and coordinates BOM changes in PDX with feedback from production teams.
- Liaises with Support team to provide and schedule assemblies for spares.
- Updates and maintains accurate project WIP balances, and maintain shortage reports for projects.
- Maintains the production schedule and completes status reports for production progress, work in process, and raw material inventory as required.
- Issues and closes work orders to approved procedures to ensure a consistent process.
- Tracks production hours & variances and updates labour standards in routings, and close work orders in real time.
- Cross-trains with other Production Planners and act as back-up, if required.
DECISION MAKING & AUTHORITY
Single point accountability for production schedule of production jobs in UK facility. Applies judgment and makes decisions to resolve routing scheduling issues.
KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Operations Management education or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- 1 - 2 years working in a production environment in an operations management role.
- Hands-on experience with at least the planning, scheduling and inventory modules of MRP or ERP systems.
- Strong computer skills and highly proficient with MS-Office products, especially MS-Excel.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems.
- Demonstrated personal time management skills.
- Competent in the implementation and use of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Kanban, 5S, Pareto analysis, JIT, TPM and others.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
- Has Customer driven focus for internal and external customers.
- Has competent and demonstrated team participation and team building skills.
