We are looking for a SMT Operator to join our manufacturing team in St Neots. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electronics manufacturing professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-quality production environment.

As an SMT Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production equipment to ensure efficient and high-quality assembly of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating computer-controlled SMT assembly and pick-and-place machinery
  • Operating AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) equipment to inspect PCBAs
  • Setting up SMT production equipment and stencil printers
  • Loading, kitting, and de-kitting SMT placement machines
  • Troubleshooting machine errors and correcting placement or printing issues
  • Hand-placing SMT components while ensuring correct orientation and polarity
  • Reading and interpreting SMT diagrams and assembly documentation
  • Recording production activities accurately within the MES manufacturing system
  • Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and housekeeping
  • Escalating process, quality, or equipment issues when required
  • Supporting continuous improvement and waste reduction initiatives

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience within an SMT manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating SMT assembly equipment and production lines
  • Ability to identify SMT component types and package styles
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment
  • Flexibility to support business requirements when needed

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience using Europlacer SMT equipment
  • IPC-A-610 certification
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and waste reduction techniques
  • Experience working within an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) environment
