Position Summary

The Head of Global QHSE is the strategic and cultural owner of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment across the organisation, with Quality teams reporting into this role. Initially focused on building on existing strengths and further developing QHSE capability at the North Shields site, the role is accountable for defining, embedding and sustaining best practice frameworks globally — ensuring alignment in intent while respecting local operational ownership and delivery. The role works in close partnership with BA and any future manufacturing capability, supporting the adoption of consistent principles and standards while recognising local regulatory, operational and cultural contexts. This is a visible, influential leadership role that shapes a strong quality and safety culture through clear governance, robust systems and effective partnerships with operations. The role balances assurance and enablement, providing confidence to the Board on risk, compliance and performance, while supporting sites and Quality teams to continuously improve and create value from learning and ideas. In addition to the outlined responsibilities, all employees are expected to consistently uphold and embody our company's core values and behaviours in their daily work, fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, and excellence.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • QHSE Strategy, Governance & Systems: Own and continuously improve the integrated management system (ISO and regulatory frameworks), ensuring it is robust, scalable and consistently applied. Act as custodian of the enterprise risk framework, ensuring risks are identified early, assessed consistently and escalated appropriately. Define global QHSE standards, policies and expectations, with local business leaders accountable for execution. Lead the internal audit programme, external audits and regulatory interfaces, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • North Shields Focus (Initial Priority): Build upon the foundations at North Shields to further develop QHSE systems, capability and ways of working, supporting consistent and sustainable improvements. Partner closely with Operations and functional leaders to continuously strengthen investigation, corrective action and prevention practices, reinforcing learning and long term effectiveness. Support the ongoing evolution of resourcing, processes and governance to ensure QHSE arrangements remain fit for the future as the business grows.
  • Global Best Practice & Standardisation: Drive global collaboration and alignment on QHSE principles, tools and metrics across sites. Collaborate with site leaders to define and embed QHSE standards that balance global consistency with local needs. Identify and share learning, trends and emerging risks across the business.
  • Culture, Capability & Leadership Influence: Champion a strong quality and safety culture, reinforcing expected behaviours at all levels of the organisation. Develop QHSE capability through coaching, mentoring and training, including the effective use of Quality & Safety Champions within departments. Influence senior leaders to maintain the right balance between performance, risk and compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement & Learning (Global): Champion a culture of continuous improvement across all sites, positioning quality and safety as integral to how work is done, not an overlay. Enable clear, structured pathways for capturing, prioritising and converting improvement ideas into measurable quality, safety and operational value. Partner with local leaders to strengthen problem solving capability, ensuring learning from issues, near misses and ideas is consistently translated into action. Support mechanisms that encourage employee input and ownership, ensuring ideas are visible, evaluated fairly and progressed with pace. Identify and share learning, trends and effective practices across sites to accelerate improvement and reduce repeat issues globally.
  • Assurance, Reporting & Escalation: Provide clear, evidence based executive and board reporting on QHSE performance, risks and trends. Ensure investigation methodologies (e.g. RCA / 8D) are robust and consistently applied, with effective verification of corrective actions. Provide early escalation of systemic weaknesses or declining standards, supported by evidence and recommendations.

What Success Looks Like

  • A robust, trusted QHSE system that provides confidence without slowing the business down.
  • Clear ownership: operations execute, QHSE governs and assures.
  • Measurable improvement in quality performance, safety outcomes and audit results.
  • A visible shift in behaviours with quality and safety seen as how we work, not an overlay.
  • Consistent standards and language across sites, with flexibility in local delivery.

This job description provides a comprehensive overview of the main responsibilities expected in this role. However, it is not an all-encompassing list and may be updated in the future to reflect changing role requirements and business needs.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Collaborative and credible, builds trust quickly with operational teams.
  • Driven and resilient, with the confidence to hold standards while enabling progress.
  • Leads from the front, combining strategic perspective with a practical, hands on approach to delivery.
  • Pragmatic and commercially aware, understands the realities of production environments and the standards we must uphold.
  • Clear communicator who can simplify complexity and focus attention on what matters most.

Education And Certification Qualifications

  • Senior QHSE leadership experience in a manufacturing, engineering or regulated environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality management systems, audit, risk and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to influence and partner with operational leaders in fast paced environments.
  • Experience driving cultural change, moving from compliance led to ownership led QHSE.
