The Opportunity

I'm currently working with Manufacturing and Distribution company, a well-established organisation in the Durham area, that is looking to hire a Principal Net Suite Developer to join its growing in-house development team.

The business is implementing Oracle Net Suite as its core ERP platform, with go-live planned for before the new year and Celigo as the integration layer.

With Phase 1 covering core back-office functions, warehousing and distribution, and Phase 2 moving into manufacturing functionality, this is an exciting opportunity to have a genuine influence on the platform's long-term technical direction.

This role will provide senior technical depth and specialist expertise to the existing development team.

You'll act as a design authority across Net Suite customisation and integration, lead complex development projects, own integration architecture and provide technical guidance through mentoring and code review.

You'll work closely with the IT Manager, developers and business stakeholders, taking ownership of complex technical decisions while remaining a senior individual contributor rather than a line manager.

If you're an experienced Net Suite developer who enjoys architecture, complex integrations and helping develop the capabilities of a wider team, this could be an excellent opportunity to take a significant technical leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as design authority for Net Suite customisation and integration, including architectural decisions, technical standards and design sign-off.
  • Lead the design and development of complex Suite Script solutions, including Map/Reduce, Suitelets, RESTlets and advanced workflow logic.
  • Own integration architecture end-to-end, including flow design, error handling, monitoring and onboarding new endpoints.
  • Establish and maintain development practices around Suite Cloud Development Framework, source control, sandbox and release management and deployment pipelines.
  • Monitor governance limits, performance and platform engineering standards.
  • Mentor and upskill the existing development team through pairing, knowledge sharing and code reviews.
  • Partner with the IT Manager on the platform roadmap, technical debt and Phase 2 manufacturing functionality.
  • Work directly with business stakeholders to understand complex requirements and translate them into technical designs.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex technical problems and third-line support incidents.
  • Provide technical documentation and ensure appropriate development and integration standards are maintained.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • 4+ years' substantial hands-on Net Suite Suite Script or a comparable mid-market ERP (Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage Intacct, Acumatica) development experience.
  • Strong experience across major Net Suite script types with a demonstrable production track record.
  • Deep experience with Celigo integrator. io or comparable platforms (Boomi, Mule Soft, Workato), including flow architecture, complex transformations and error handling.
  • Experience taking architectural and design responsibility within a Net Suite implementation, existing estate or comparable ERP/integration environment.
  • Strong understanding of the ERP data models, including saved searches, custom records and scripted vs workflow solutions.
  • Strong understanding of platform governance, performance and scalability considerations.
  • Experience operating as a senior individual contributor, including code review, mentoring and technical decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to provide technical leadership without direct line-management responsibility.
  • Net Suite Suite Cloud Developer II or Administrator certification.
  • CPQ tooling experience.
  • Manufacturing ERP experience, particularly inventory, work orders and BOMs.
  • Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD for Net Suite.
  • Experience with Salto, Blue Yonder or equivalent tooling.
  • SQL, Python or other scripting experience for tooling and data work.
  • Background within manufacturing, distribution or food and beverage.
  • Experience with BI tooling, particularly Phocas.
  • Experience with comparable integration platforms such as Boomi, Mule Soft or Workato.

Package and Benefits

  • £50,000 - £75,000 salary (depending on experience).
  • Hybrid working with a minimum of 2 days per week on-site in the Durham area.
  • Life Assurance – 6 x salary.
  • Free parking.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Training and career development opportunities.
  • Holiday Purchase Scheme.
  • Holiday Loyalty Reward Days.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Techscheme and employee discounts.
  • Opportunity to work on a newly implemented enterprise platform with a clear Phase 2 roadmap.
  • Genuine design authority and influence over the long-term technical direction.
  • Opportunity to mentor and develop an established in-house development team.

How to prepare for a job interview at Oscar

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Oscar uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
