About the Business

Our client is a well-established investment management firm in London, managing assets across multiple strategies for institutional and private clients. With a disciplined, data-driven approach to portfolio management, the firm prioritises collaboration, investment rigor, and long-term outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to join the investment team in a pivotal support role, providing analytical insight, data management, and operational continuity across the portfolio function.

The Role

We are seeking a Portfolio Analyst to act as a connective role within the investment team, supporting portfolio managers through data, analysis, and execution rather than direct deal activity. You will play a central role in ensuring continuity and resilience across core investment support processes, maintaining high-quality fund and portfolio data, producing actionable insights, and supporting both internal and client-facing reporting.

The role is ideal for someone highly analytical, collaborative, and motivated by solving complex portfolio questions, building tools, and automating processes using SQL and Python to improve decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and curate fund and portfolio data, ensuring consistency, usability, and reliability for downstream analysis and reporting.
  • Produce analytical outputs to interpret portfolio behaviour, performance trends, and risk positioning at a fund level.
  • Support capital deployment activity, including coordination around allocations and fund-level movements.
  • Provide information and analysis to facilitate investment committee, senior management, and client-facing discussions.
  • Play a role in external-facing information provision, including investor queries, due diligence exercises, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Build and adapt analytical tools, models, and automation using SQL and Python to support forward-looking assessment, stress scenarios, and fund modelling.
  • Partner with operational and finance teams to ensure portfolio activity, financing, and reporting are aligned and accurate.
  • Contribute to the evolution of data infrastructure, controls, and documentation as the organisation scales.
  • Engage in process redesign and automation initiatives to reduce manual intervention and improve insight generation.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a Portfolio Analyst, Investment Analyst, or similar role, preferably on the buy-side.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience managing and analysing fund-level data and portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio analysis, performance measurement, and risk management.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with investment analytics platforms or portfolio management systems advantageous.
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to produce clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident engaging with portfolio managers, operational teams, and clients.
  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline; CFA progress advantageous.

Personal Attributes

  • Proactive and solution-oriented, with a desire to take ownership of processes and outputs.
  • Comfortable working across teams and functions to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Adaptable, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Curious and analytical, with a mindset for continuous improvement and automation using SQL and Python.

Benefits

  • Salary £50,000 – £70,000 DOE.
  • Hybrid working model with London office base (4 days in office).
  • Exposure to portfolio managers, investment decision-making, and client reporting.
  • Collaborative and supportive investment team environment.
  • Opportunities to shape data processes, tools and reporting as the organisation scales.
