About The Role

We're looking for an Accountant to support the Financial Manager in overseeing day‑to‑day financial transactions — from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets.

As Accountant, you'll ensure financial transactions, reconciliations, tax obligations, and reporting are handled accurately and efficiently, and that internal controls and financial policies are consistently applied. You'll build strong knowledge of our accounting systems and working relationships with banks, auditors, and HMRC, while providing reliable support across the business.

Financial Transactions & Reporting

  • Manage all accounting transactions accurately and on time, with complete supporting documentation
  • Prepare budget forecasts and monitor actual performance against budget
  • Publish financial statements within agreed deadlines; handle monthly, quarterly and annual closes
  • Manage balance sheets and P&L statements, ensuring accuracy and reconciliation
  • Report on financial health, performance and liquidity to senior management, flagging risks and trends
  • Maintain complete, accurate financial records and supporting schedules
  • Reconcile accounts payable/receivable and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Reconcile bank statements and other control accounts
  • Ensure timely, accurate bank payments (suppliers, payroll, scheduled outgoings)
  • Compute tax liabilities and prepare returns (VAT, corporation tax, etc.) in line with HMRC deadlines
  • Audit transactions and documentation for accuracy and policy compliance
  • Comply with financial policies, internal controls, and UK GAAP/IFRS as applicable; support audits
  • Uphold financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups as needed

Financial Planning, Systems & Stakeholder Support

  • Support cash-flow forecasting, working‑capital monitoring and financial modelling
  • Assist with year‑end procedures; liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks and suppliers
  • Maintain fixed‑asset registers, accruals, prepayments and other balance‑sheet schedules
  • Identify process improvements and provide cover during peak workloads and absences

About You

  • Proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar finance/bookkeeping role
  • Strong knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures (UK GAAP and/or IFRS)
  • Hands‑on experience with accounting software (FreshBooks, QuickBooks, Xero or Sage)
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, financial modelling) and general ledger experience
  • BSc in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Part- or fully‑qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or AAT qualification
  • Experience supporting statutory audits, year‑end procedures or multi‑entity reporting
