We are recruiting a VAT Senior Manager on behalf of a highly respected and growing accountancy and business advisory firm in Torquay.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced VAT Senior Manager, Senior Indirect Tax Manager, or experienced VAT Manager looking to take the next step into a strategic leadership role, with responsibility for complex client portfolios, advisory projects, team development, and business growth.
The Role
As a VAT Senior Manager, you will lead a portfolio of high-value and technically complex clients, providing strategic VAT and indirect tax advice while working closely with Directors and Partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of complex VAT, indirect tax, and customs clients
- Leading high-value VAT advisory and compliance assignments
- Providing strategic advice on complex VAT and indirect tax matters
- Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and key stakeholders
- Leading multidisciplinary teams on complex assignments
- Providing technical review and quality assurance across client deliverables
- Identifying VAT planning opportunities and developing commercially focused solutions
- Supporting Directors and Partners with complex advisory work
- Managing budgets, pricing, WIP, and engagement profitability
- Building and maintaining strong senior client relationships
- Leading business development, networking, proposals, and thought leadership activity
- Identifying opportunities with existing and prospective clients
- Coaching, mentoring, and developing junior members of the team
- Contributing to the continued growth and development of the wider VAT function
About You
You'll have:
- CTA and/or ACA/ACCA qualification, or equivalent experience
- Significant post-qualification experience in VAT or indirect tax
- Strong technical knowledge across UK VAT and/or customs
- Proven experience managing complex client portfolios
- Experience delivering high-level VAT advisory projects
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking
- Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Proven leadership and people development experience
- Strong business development and networking abilities
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail
Experience with international VAT, customs, tax technology, or data analytics would be advantageous.
