We are recruiting a VAT Manager on behalf of a highly respected and growing accountancy and business advisory firm in Exeter.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced VAT Manager, Indirect Tax Manager, or Senior VAT professional to join a supportive and forward-thinking tax team, managing a varied portfolio of clients and delivering high-quality VAT and indirect tax advice.
The Role
As a VAT Manager, you will manage a portfolio of clients while taking responsibility for complex VAT compliance and advisory assignments.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of VAT and indirect tax clients
- Delivering VAT compliance and advisory services
- Advising clients on complex UK VAT and indirect tax matters
- Leading technical VAT assignments from planning through to completion
- Reviewing VAT work and maintaining high technical standards
- Responding to client queries and providing practical, commercially focused advice
- Identifying VAT planning opportunities and additional advisory work
- Supporting Directors and Partners on complex assignments
- Preparing fee proposals and managing budgets, WIP, and fee recovery
- Working collaboratively with specialist teams across the wider firm
- Supporting business development and identifying opportunities with existing and new clients
- Coaching and mentoring junior members of the team
About You
You'll have:
- CTA and/or ACA/ACCA qualification, or equivalent experience
- Strong VAT experience gained within a UK accountancy practice or professional services environment
- Proven experience managing a VAT client portfolio
- Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT and indirect taxation
- Experience handling complex VAT advisory assignments
- Excellent client relationship and communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach
Experience with customs, international VAT, or wider indirect tax matters would be advantageous.
