We are recruiting a Tax Investigations Senior Manager on behalf of a highly respected and growing accountancy and business advisory firm in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Tax Investigations Manager, Tax Disputes Manager, or Senior Tax Manager with a strong HMRC investigations background to join a specialist tax team.
The role offers significant exposure to complex HMRC enquiries, COP8 and COP9 investigations, voluntary disclosures, tax disputes, and contentious tax matters, alongside client advisory and business development responsibilities.
The Role
- Take ownership of complex HMRC investigations from initial enquiry through to resolution.
- Manage complex HMRC enquiries, including COP8 and COP9 investigations.
- Advise individuals and businesses throughout the investigation process.
- Manage voluntary disclosures and full or aspect enquiries.
- Prepare detailed responses and technical submissions to HMRC.
- Act as the main point of contact with HMRC officers.
- Represent clients during meetings, negotiations, and correspondence.
- Provide technical analysis of complex UK tax matters.
- Identify tax risks and develop strategies to mitigate exposure.
- Negotiate practical and commercially focused outcomes with HMRC.
- Prepare clear technical reports and client advice.
- Build strong relationships with clients, legal advisers, and professional contacts.
- Support business development through networking and identifying new opportunities.
- Mentor and develop junior members of the team.
- Deliver internal training and share knowledge on tax investigations and disputes.
About You
- CTA qualified, with ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualifications also considered.
- Significant post-qualification experience in UK tax investigations and disputes.
- Strong experience dealing directly with HMRC.
- Detailed knowledge of UK tax legislation and HMRC procedures.
- Experience handling COP8, COP9, voluntary disclosures, and complex enquiries.
- Excellent technical research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- The confidence to explain complex tax matters clearly to clients.
- Excellent client relationship and negotiation skills.
- A commercial and proactive approach to business development.
- Experience coaching and developing junior colleagues.
