The Role We are currently recruiting for an experienced HR Consultant specialising in Job Evaluation to join an established public-sector organisation’s HR and People service.

This role requires significant HR experience gained within a local authority, together with proven experience of undertaking job evaluations using the NJC GLP framework.

You will lead and support job evaluation activity, ensuring roles are assessed fairly, accurately and consistently.

Working closely with managers, HR colleagues, senior leaders and trade unions, you will provide specialist advice on role design, grading outcomes, pay structures and job evaluation processes.

The successful candidate will also contribute to HR policy development, complex employee relations casework and organisational projects that influence workforce culture and working practices.

Although the role is predominantly remote, candidates must be able to attend the client’s office in Bristol when required and should have a good understanding of Bristol and the surrounding area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support job evaluation activity, assessing roles fairly and consistently using the NJC GLP framework.
  • Advise managers on job descriptions, role design, grading outcomes and job evaluation processes.
  • Review job descriptions and supporting evidence to ensure sufficient and accurate information is available for evaluation.
  • Maintain and develop job evaluation frameworks, records and supporting documentation.
  • Analyse role, pay and workforce data to inform grading decisions and identify trends or areas for improvement.
  • Review and develop HR policies, ensuring fairness and compliance with employment legislation.
  • Provide specialist advice on complex HR matters, including conduct, performance, attendance, grievances and organisational change.
  • Support organisational projects requiring HR, policy or job evaluation expertise.
  • Work collaboratively with managers, HR colleagues, senior leaders, colleague networks and trade unions.
  • Contribute to Equality Impact Assessments, manager guidance and training while maintaining consistently high standards of accuracy. About You
  • Significant and proven HR experience within a local authority environment is essential.
  • Direct experience of undertaking job evaluations using the NJC GLP framework is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of job evaluation principles, role design, grading and pay structures.
  • Experience advising managers on evaluation outcomes and resolving grading queries or challenges.
  • Good understanding of employment law, HR policies and recognised HR practice.
  • Experience developing, reviewing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience providing advice on complex employee relations casework.
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience working confidently with managers, senior leaders, HR colleagues and trade unions.
  • Ability to work independently in a predominantly remote role, attend the client’s office when required and understand the local area.
