Are you a Network Engineer who enjoys owning complex infrastructure and solving high-impact technical challenges? A large UK-based enterprise organisation with a complex multi-site infrastructure estate is looking to bring on a Network Operations Engineer to help maintain and enhance their enterprise network estate. This is a key role within the infrastructure team, focused on ensuring stability, performance, and security across critical systems and networks while contributing to ongoing infrastructure improvement and transformation projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimising enterprise network environments, acting as a senior escalation point for network-related incidents. Working across LAN, WAN, WLAN, security platforms, and cloud networking, you will play an important role in ensuring core systems operate reliably while supporting continuous improvement across the network estate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain enterprise LAN / WAN / WLAN infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents, including root cause analysis
  • Support and manage firewalls, switches, wireless controllers, and access points
  • Carry out patching, vulnerability management, and configuration reviews
  • Assist with network upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure projects
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, and SOPs
  • Act as an escalation point for service desk and high-priority incidents
  • Work with security teams and external partners to investigate security events
  • Support capacity planning, performance monitoring, and resilience initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with security standards, operational procedures, and change control

Technical Environment

The environment includes a mixture of enterprise networking and security technologies, including:

  • Cisco / Meraki networking
  • Fortigate, Palo Alto or Cisco Firepower firewalls
  • Routing & switching technologies (OSPF, VLANs, STP)
  • Monitoring platforms such as PRTG or SolarWinds
  • Core networking services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and wireless networks

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience within network operations, network engineering, or infrastructure engineering
  • Hands-on experience managing enterprise networking environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience supporting network security technologies and firewall platforms
  • Comfortable working independently and owning technical issues through to resolution
  • Ability to document systems and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable Experience

  • Certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CMSS, or Palo Alto PCNSA
  • Experience with cloud networking (Azure or AWS)
  • Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, and deployment processes
