Our client, based in East London, is seeking an experienced Public Protection Officer to lead a key project focused on the implementation and progression of work relating to the Offensive Weapons Act. This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting compliance across Havering by reviewing legislation, developing practical guidance, and working closely with local businesses to ensure they understand and meet their legal obligations.

The successful candidate will review current legislation and best practice relating to offensive weapons, including bladed articles, crossbows, corrosive substances, and zombie‑style knives and machetes. You will be responsible for producing clear and effective guidance, conducting compliance and enforcement activities where required, and engaging with stakeholders to promote awareness and adherence to legal requirements.

Applicants should have strong experience within Public Protection, enforcement, or a related regulatory field, together with a sound understanding of the Offensive Weapons Act, age‑restricted sales, licensing requirements, and Home Office guidance. The ability to manage projects independently, undertake inspections, interpret intelligence, and build positive working relationships with stakeholders is essential.

This is a 3‑month contract working 36 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements negotiable. Rates start from £45 per hour and are negotiable depending on experience.
