Job Title: Principal Planning Officer

Our client, a local authority in East London, is seeking a Principal Planning Officer to join their Development Management team. Reporting to the Area Manager, you will lead the team in managing major and complex planning applications and address contentious development control issues. Your projects will contribute to the borough's regeneration and economic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead on major and complex planning applications.
  2. Represent the Council at public inquiries, hearings, and court, presenting expert evidence.
  3. Provide professional advice to Council members, senior officers, applicants, and the public.
  4. Deputise for the Area Team Leader as needed.
  5. Develop Planning Performance Agreements and advise on complex pre-application cases.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Degree-qualified town planner with recent local authority development management experience.
  2. Significant experience with strategic major developments and high-profile applications.
  3. Experience supervising junior staff and signing off delegated applications.
  4. London experience and understanding of current planning, regeneration, and local government issues in London are preferred.

Contract Details:

This is a 6-month initial contract, with potential extension. The role offers up to Β£50 per hour (Umbrella, inside IR35). The team primarily works remotely, with occasional office or committee attendance.
