An Essex Council is seeking an experienced Senior Damp, Mould and Disrepair Surveyor to join its housing team on a 12-month contract. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Council's damp, mould and disrepair service, ensuring cases are managed effectively from inspection through to resolution.

Working within a busy housing environment, you will lead on complex cases, diagnose building defects, prepare technical reports and schedules of work, and ensure remedial actions are delivered to a high standard. You will also provide day‑to‑day management and technical support to a small team of specialist surveyors, helping to drive performance, consistency and service improvement across the function.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in diagnosing damp, mould, condensation, water ingress and wider housing disrepair issues within residential properties, ideally gained within a local authority, housing association or social housing environment. You will possess strong knowledge of housing legislation and best practice, including landlord repairing obligations, the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), Awaab's Law and the wider regulatory landscape.

Previous experience managing or mentoring surveyors, producing technical reports and specifications, and working closely with contractors, legal teams and housing colleagues will be highly beneficial. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role requires engagement with residents, stakeholders and senior management on sensitive and often complex cases.

In return, the Council is offering a competitive rate of £450 per day (Umbrella) and the opportunity to play a leading role in one of the most important areas of housing service delivery. You will have the chance to make a genuine impact on residents' lives by improving housing conditions, reducing repeat issues and ensuring properties remain safe and compliant.

The position offers a mix of site‑based and office working, with an expectation of being on site approximately 3‑4 days per week, alongside the opportunity to contribute to long‑term service improvements and strategic housing initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced surveyor seeking a challenging and rewarding contract role within a progressive Essex Council.

CVs must show Senior Damp, Mould and Disrepair Surveyor experience and not solely Private Sector Housing Officer.
