We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our highly regarded Property Disputes team in Bristol, rated by Chambers & Partners as a national leader outside London.

This is a great opportunity to join a team who are seeing significant growth in work and a chance to build relationships with some fantastic clients whilst working in a collaborative team environment. You will be joining a successful firm with a collegiate and supportive culture, which makes it a rewarding place to work.

The Practice

Our specialist Property Disputes lawyers excel in helping clients resolve all kinds of disputes ranging from all aspects of landlord and tenant to complex and highly technical development and land rights disputes for telecom operators. The team handles cases at all levels of the Court system, as well as before Tribunals and arbitration panels, in order to represent the interests of clients. The practice also provides advice on risk mitigation and management in the context of potential disputes and property related regulation.

We have a premier client base and support these clients on a range of market leading cases. The Team

Led by Leona Briggs who is rated in both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, the team spans the Bristol and London offices; in Bristol we are currently comprised of 2 Partners, 1 Legal Director, 6 Associate Directors, 5 Senior Associates, 7 Associates, 2 Trainee Solicitors, 6 Paralegals, a legal manager and 2 Solicitor Apprentices. We work across office with our Reading and London colleagues and the team in those offices comprises 3 Partners, 2 Legal Directors, 2 Associate Directors, 4 Senior Associates, 3 Associates, 2 Trainee Solicitors, 1 Solicitor Apprentice and 1 Paralegal.

This role will primarily be supporting Leona Briggs and Emily Van Schalkwyk, the partners in the team.

Technical Skills and Experience

Due to the technical nature of the practice, we are looking for candidates who have worked within a recognised and respected Property Litigation team and have a good track record in managing a varied caseload. You will have strong drafting and legal technical skills and show an enthusiasm for getting to know a client\’s sector as well as the relevant law. You will also be able to demonstrate collaborative team working as well as working on your own matters. Finally, evidence of having supervised more junior team members would also be an advantage.

Ideally, you will have experience required in tribunal litigation under the electronic communications code, but this is not essential provided you are interested in building up such experience as part of a broader practice.

As a guide, due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are looking to appoint a Senior Associate in this area, although we will consider candidates with less experience, but with an appetite to develop that experience in new areas.

Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our Multi-award Winning Career Development Programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:

  • Clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
  • High quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
  • Thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
  • Robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you;
