Overview

Join to apply for the FIG Paralegal role at Osborne Clarke

Role profile. We have an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to join our FIG team based in either our Bristol or London offices on a permanent basis. Your workload will principally involve assistance with one major client but there may also be opportunities to work on other matters within our varied group.

The practice

Our highly profitable FIG practice, part of the Business Transactions Group (BTG), spans 4 core service lines: Investment Funds; Payments; Consumer and Small Business Finance; and Financial Regulation. We advise financial institutions, corporates and service providers on all aspects of the financial services environment in which they operate. Our work ranges from pure advisory work through product launches to outsourcings and M&A. Much of our practice is international in nature, driven through the increasing OC International reach.

We are known for our technical excellence, but more so for our solutions-led approach which makes us a good fit for assisting clients bringing innovative products to market.

The team

Our FIG team comprises 10 partners, 1 legal director and 25 lawyers with 5 trainee solicitors, 2 solicitor apprentices and 5 paralegals. The team operates from two offices, in London and Bristol.

The role

We act for a market leading private equity fund secondaries manager. We undertake secondary funds transactions for the client, which involves the purchase of interests in existing private equity funds. The client buys these interests on a portfolio basis, typically between 25 and 75 interests at a time. Each purchase of an interest requires completion of a significant amount of legal documentation, including transfer agreements and investor questionnaires. We have developed an online platform to help assist with the management of the transfer process, but we need legal input to negotiate the transfer agreements and to complete the investor questionnaires. Many of the transfers involve US fund managers and lawyers.

In this role you will be

  • Working with lawyers representing the sellers and fund managers of the interests being transferred to agree transfer documentation.
  • Completing investor questionnaires.
  • Liaising with our client and its offshore administrators in relation to the above.
  • Managing the transfer process, including tracking the progress of each document and facilitating the completion of the transfer (and the payment for the interest).

Skills and experience

Previous experience working as a paralegal would be advantageous but not a prerequisite. Most importantly, you need to be someone who is highly organised, commercially-minded, a team worker and able to put yourself in the shoes of the client. The paralegals who currently undertake this work spend most of their time in OC offices and regularly work outside normal office hours, for which we pay overtime.

The successful candidate will

  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills;
  • Have experience of prioritising competing commitments and working to deadlines; and
  • Demonstrate a client-orientated approach, both internally and externally.
