Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm

Salary: £27,000 - £29,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Assembly Operative to join a well-established and growing engineering business in Hitchin.

This is a great opportunity for a practical, hands‑on engineer who enjoys building and assembling machinery and wants to develop their skills within a specialist engineering environment.

Duties of an Assembly Operative:

  • Assemble and fit mechanical components used within industrial water treatment systems.
  • Build, position and align pumps, valves, brackets, gauges and other mechanical components.
  • Use a range of hand tools and power tools to complete mechanical assembly and fitting work.
  • Read and work from engineering drawings and technical information to ensure accurate assembly.
  • Assist with the installation and preparation of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Work closely with the wider engineering team within a busy workshop environment.
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately, safely and to the required quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve basic mechanical issues during the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.

What we would like from you:

  • Previous experience in mechanical fitting, mechanical assembly, engineering or a similar hands‑on role.
  • Confident using a range of hand tools and power tools.
  • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience building, assembling, installing or working on machinery or mechanical systems.
  • Candidates with experience fixing, building or assembling machines are encouraged to apply, as this experience can be highly transferable.
  • Experience within industrial machinery, manufacturing, engineering or water treatment would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Familiarity with ABS/PVC-U assemblies would be an advantage.
  • A practical and hands‑on approach with good attention to detail.
  • A strong focus on quality and safety.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team within a busy workshop environment.
  • Keen to learn, develop and build a long‑term career within engineering.
