An excellent opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team. Working closely with Mechanical Design, Project, and Software teams, you will be responsible for producing control panel layouts, schematic drawings, component and cable specifications, and providing technical support to installation teams and clients.

This role would suit someone with strong practical electrical knowledge and CAD experience who enjoys working on varied, technically challenging projects.

Duties of an Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Generate electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams using Eplan Pro Panel
  • Produce control panel layouts and schematic drawings
  • Specify and source components, consumables, and hardware in collaboration with purchasing and software teams
  • Select PLC/HMI hardware alongside the Software department
  • Support spares and service teams with parts sourcing and technical queries
  • Work to customer specifications (URS) where required
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation and standards (BS7671, IEC 60204, ISO 13849, UL508A, NFPA79, AS3000, etc.)
  • Ensure product safety and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Provide technical input on sales enquiries and customer requirements
  • Support product quality, testing, inspection, and application documentation
  • Carry out technical design calculations and produce reports
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Design to integrate control systems into machine designs
  • Research and specify replacements for obsolete components in existing machines
  • Work with low voltage single and three-phase AC systems (110V–600V) and 24V DC systems

What we would like from you:

  • Proven practical electrical wiring experience (mechanical knowledge beneficial)
  • Previous electrical CAD experience (Eplan Pro Panel desirable)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word & Excel)
  • Ideally HNC/HND qualified (or above) in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Ability to manage a dynamic workload with a flexible, problem-solving approach
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and electrical data
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Knowledge of control panel design for international markets (US, Australia)
  • BS7671 qualification
  • Knowledge of PLC hardware/software (Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Siemens)
  • Understanding of industrial networking systems (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, RS232/485, etc.)
