Core Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a design strategy that enhances learning engagement and retention.
- Inspire and nurture a team of design specialists based in the UK and India to raise standards and develop a culture of excellence.
- Drive evolution of design practices to optimise use of AI and other systems and tools to maximise team capacity and pace/speed to market.
- Ensure all materials align with brand and corporate guidelines and instructional design best practices.
- Proactively partner with the Learning teams and Business Function SMEs to bring ideas to life and solve real user problems to meet business needs.
- Own the end to end design process from discovery and prototyping to delivery and continuous improvement.
- Ensure high quality design output across various learning formats including facilitator led training and e-learning.
- Innovate and implement new visual approaches, including the use of AI, VR, motion graphics and gamification, to improve digital experiences.
- Maintain consistency across all design assets, ensuring accessibility, usability and best practices.
- Collaborate with technology teams to enhance UX/UI design in all content and on OSB’s Learning Management System.
- Take a ‘systems thinking’ approach designing learning journeys with consideration of all touch points during the colleagues end to end experience.
- Ensure full visibility of the backlog, work in progress, flow and output of the work, escalating blockers and managing dependencies.
- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of learning to track their performance against desired outcomes, and deploy a continuous improvement culture.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies within learning and actively share knowledge internally and externally.
- Support the Group’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Specialist in identifying and implementing related initiatives to create a truly inclusive and equitable work environment.
- Ensure that you and your team fully understand and comply with the organisation’s Risk Management Policies and Data Governance Policies.
Experience Requirements
- Experience of design leadership to inspire, guide and elevate a team of technical learning designers.
- Creative, insight led with strong technical aptitude who is passionate about transforming how learning is designed and delivered.
- Proven experience of people leadership and/or mentoring others grow in their design skills and careers.
- Significant experience in developing design and/or advanced understanding to support others in use of e-learning through various tools.
- Understanding to support others and/or experience with SCORM, xAPI, HTML/CSS within an LMS.
- Experience in leading UX/UI principles including areas like web design and accessibility standards.
- Extensive experience in Learning Experience Design and instructional design.
- Evidence of using a range of insight sources to deliver learning outcomes and impacting learning engagement.
Knowledge Requirements
- Robust knowledge of User Testing practices.
- Specialist knowledge in learning & development best practices and industry trends.
- Robust knowledge of industry tools, systems and methods to sustain a skills based organisation.
- Robust knowledge of agile learning practices.
Skill and Competency Requirements
- Exceptional communication skills are essential (verbal and written).
- Excellent design thinking and systems thinking capability.
- Demonstrated agile project management skills are essential.
- Demonstrated skills to analyse complex problems and deliver insightful, practical, and sustainable solutions.
- Resilience and tenacity to lead through ambiguity and change with impact.
- People leadership skills to develop and sustain a high performing team.
- Advanced skills in PowerPoint.
- Intermediate skills in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word are essential.
Required Qualifications/Certifications
- GSCE/GCE qualifications in both maths and English are essential.
- Degree, qualification or equivalent professional development in design or customer experience are essential.
