We are recruiting a Senior Cost Manager to own the end to end cost agenda, including maintaining a concise 'cost narrative' for core IT and the cloud native Transformation programme. This is a new role reporting into the Head of Cost, Reporting and Lending and will also work alongside a small team of Cost Business Partners. The role can be based from Wolverhampton or Chatham.
As Senior Cost Business Manager you will be the senior Finance representative into the IT and Transformation leadership teams, you'll challenge plans, shape spend profiles and tell a clear, evidence-based cost narrative that non-finance and technical stakeholders can act on. Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead cash accounting, capitalisation, depreciation/amortisation and the accuracy of the total cost of ownership across Transformation and Group Technology; partner closely with Group Financial Control.
- Lead the annual budget and a rolling forecast processes; build driver-based models (and identify risks and cost saving opportunities early).
- Implement cloud cost governance and support optimisation.
- Produce and present monthly actuals vs budget/forecast with clear root-cause variance analysis corrective actions and decision requests.
- Prepare materials suitable for SLT, Programme SteerCo and Group ExCo.
- Maintain a concise "cost narrative" that explains how the cost base is composed and how it's evolving.
- Simplify the cost model, shorten close/reporting timelines, automate reconciliations, and raise insight quality analysis.
Base salary from Β£72,000 - Β£85,000 dependant upon experience. Enhanced family-focused benefits. Annual bonus opportunity up to 25%. 30 days annual leave + bank holidays.

We are looking for talented individuals who have the experience and knowledge set out below:
- Fully qualified accountant with experience working and influencing Executive stakeholders.
- Track record in cost and/or management accounting within Financial Services, with proven ownership of complex technology cost centres and/or major programmes.
- Hands-on IT cost domain knowledge (infrastructure, software, services, projects; cloud).
- Demonstrable project accounting experience (capex/opex/cash).
- Advanced financial modelling in Excel including Power Query; experience with ERP/General ledger and forecasting tools to build clean, auditable driver-based models from raw data and provide insights and recommendations.
- Experience and knowledge of good financial control hygiene (reconciliations, documentation, segregation of duties).
- Strong analysis and clear communication skills in order to confidently present information and data in a digestible way.
