About the team
We are looking for a Lead Quality Engineer to play a key role in delivering quality engineering across our technology landscape, helping to ensure consistent, scalable and high-quality delivery aligned to our strategic objectives. In this role, you'll help deliver and embed modern testing practices, supporting automation, performance and security testing across the full software development lifecycle. You'll contribute to our technology modernisation agenda, ensuring quality is built in from the outset and continuously improved. Reporting into the Deputy Head of Testing, you'll work closely with stakeholders across engineering, product and operations while supporting and developing a high-performing team. This role can be based from our Chatham or Wolverhampton offices.
What you will be doing
- As Lead Quality Engineer you will play a key role in executing quality engineering initiatives, helping to embed robust, scalable and innovative testing practices across all technology delivery.
- Support the delivery of a transformation-focused quality engineering agenda across all value streams.
- Execute and contribute to quality engineering strategies, frameworks and automation-first approaches.
- Design, implement and enhance automated testing using tools such as Playwright (TypeScript) for UI, Karate and Cucumber (BDD) for API testing, and Gatling Enterprise for performance testing.
- Develop and evolve scalable test automation frameworks integrated within CI/CD pipelines, leveraging tools such as Zephyr and BrowserStack for test management.
- Lead, coach and support a high-performing quality engineering team.
- Embed quality across the full delivery lifecycle, including performance, security and accessibility testing.
- Collaborate across distributed teams to support alignment, remove blockers and enable high-quality releases.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in a Lead/Senior Quality Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on test automation within a regulated/financial services organisation.
- Experience contributing to and scaling automation frameworks across complex environments.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams within complex, fast-paced environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with API, UI and BDD test automation, alongside proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Java, Python, JavaScript or C#).
- Hands-on experience with performance testing and test management tools, including Gatling Enterprise, Zephyr, and BrowserStack.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools, combined with a solid understanding of cloud platforms and containerisation technologies.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging at a senior level and the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
