The firm advises a distinguished clientele, including high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners, and trustees, on estate planning, trust management, and probate matters. The firm are recognized for delivering bespoke legal solutions and outstanding client service.
The business has a private client department that services some of the highest quality work available within the city. The probate team works closely with the Tax, Trust and Estate team as you would expect and as a result this is a very important hire for the business.
Role Overview
The Probate Manager will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of probate and estate administration. This leadership position offers the opportunity to work on complex and high-value estates, contribute to the growth of the department, and support the firm’s commitment to excellence in private client services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in probate work and a strong understanding of trusts, estate planning, and related tax matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Probate and Estate Administration:
- Oversee the end-to-end administration of a portfolio of complex and high-value estates.
- Prepare and submit probate applications, including Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration.
- Manage the collection, valuation, and distribution of estate assets in accordance with wills or intestacy laws.
- Tax and Compliance:
- Prepare detailed Inheritance Tax (IHT) returns and ensure compliance with IHT, Capital Gains Tax, and Income Tax requirements during estate administration.
- Liaise with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to address tax matters and resolve any disputes.
- Client and Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a primary point of contact for executors, trustees, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.
- Provide clear, compassionate advice and guidance to clients throughout the probate process.
- Leadership and Team Support:
- Manage junior team members and legal assistants, providing mentoring, support, and supervision.
- Work closely with the Private Client partners and solicitors to develop and refine probate services.
- Process Management and Risk Mitigation:
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant administration of estates.
- Identify potential risks or challenges and implement appropriate solutions.
