Ortus Group are working exclusively with a highly regarded mid-tier City law firm who have asked for our help to attract a talented Employment Lawyer (4–8 PQE) to join their thriving Employment team, part of the firm’s rapidly expanding Business Services Group. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a diverse and prestigious client base, including household names and major corporates, in a team known for its collegiate, supportive culture and high-quality work.
As part of a close-knit and growing team, you will advise employers and senior executives on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and developing strong client relationships while contributing to the ongoing success and growth of the practice.
Role & Responsibilities
- To be responsible, under the supervision of a partner for the day-to-day running of matters allocated. To take all appropriate steps to ensure that all matters are dealt with efficiently and expeditiously and cost effectively.
- To provide a high level of client service.
- To carry out work expeditiously and to a high professional standard.
- To comply with the continuing education requirements of the Law Society and over and above those requirements, to ensure that adequate training is undertaken and to keep up to date with changes in the law.
- To ensure that all time spent on any matter is recorded; that recorded time is monitored regularly.
- To bring to the partner’s attention all matters where an appropriate stage has been reached to bill.
- To take appropriate steps to get bills paid promptly.
- To consolidate the relationship with clients and actively to seek to market services of the department and the other departments in the firm to clients and potential clients.
- Where required to assist the partners in the administration of the firm, in particular by sitting on selected committees.
- To participate in networking events both in the firm and as a member of other organisations.
About You:
- 4–8 years’ PQE in employment law gained at a well-regarded City or regional firm.
- Strong technical ability with experience across both contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
- Commercially astute with excellent communication and client-handling skills.
- A team player who thrives in a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Enthusiastic about contributing to the continued growth of the Business Services Group.
- Will consider AUS & NZ Qualified Lawyer.
