Primary Functions and Responsibilities

As an HIM coordinator, you'll play a vital role in achieving departmental and practice goals, including:

  • Work closely with the HIM team across the state to accomplish departmental objectives effectively and efficiently
  • Provide excellent patient experience on the phones by assisting any way you can
  • Ability to understand HIPAA, with the ability to release records as requested.
  • Work to ensure compliance and work with staff for the completion of pending, unsigned and incomplete documentation.
  • Monitoring, receiving, sending, and requesting pending and completed operative notes with outside hospital systems.
  • Addressing messages from staff and providers regarding patients, requestors, vendors.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Working knowledge, understanding, and completion of chart merging, chart corrections, and researching chart issues.
  • Collaborating with revenue cycle management to provide billing and patient documents linked to requests for release of information, insurance audits and patient requests.
  • Collaborating with our copy service on release of information, assisting patient complaints, status checks and directing requestors to the copy service.
  • Working daily in EPIC work queues to complete pending messages, answering patient messages, and staff messages.
  • Working as a team to optimize our workflows to be efficient and effective with new solutions when necessary.
  • Daily team support and collaboration with the HIM department to ensure completion of any outstanding tasks to enhance efficiency and quality across the team.
  • Building strong relationships with providers, staff and practice managers to ensure clear and timely communication for completion of pending documentation and outstanding encounters.
  • Chart analysis with the ability to review records, audit charts, data abstraction, chart corrections, and multi-task.
  • Ability to review documents and scan into the correct patient's chart.
  • Daily monitoring and processing any imaging requests, pushing of radiology request to outside entities, normalizing any incoming imaging into the correct patients' chart and requesting images from outside facilities to be sent to us for patient care.
  • Daily monitoring and processing of the medical records work queues, fax queues, my chart requests, and patient queues.
  • Ability to transcribe/compose letters for patients per providers and clinical team member requests.
  • Assist providers as needed regarding medical records, correspondence for requests, and ROI.
  • Abide by Federals laws, Rules, and Regulations surrounding PHI, HIPAA, release of information, confidentiality and protection of patient records.
  • Willingness to cross-train and work across the department to assist others
  • Working diligently as a Team player and completing other tasks as assigned.

  • High proficiency with electronic health record systems, EPIC.
  • Flexible, resourceful, and a proactive troubleshooter.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through, working on multiple tasks simultaneously, and setting priorities effectively.

Compensation Range for this position: $17.98 - $26.97 Compensation for this role will be based on several factors, including the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, certifications, geography/market, and internal equity considerations.
