Principal Operations Technician
As QuidelOrtho continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint a Principal Operations Technician to join our Biovue Quality Compliance department in Pencoed on a permanent basis. This role will work a 24/7 shift pattern (7 shifts across 14 days which include 12-hour days & nights).
About QuidelOrtho, Pencoed
QuidelOrtho has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 600 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to sites across the globe.
Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunohematology products used in transfusion medicine; in addition to a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories.
On site we have a range of functions operating globally & locally. All our employees are working towards one common goal, to help save and improve lives through diagnostics.
Your new role:
The Principal Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the quality control of immunodiagnostics products, including testing raw materials, bulk solutions, and finished products. In this role, you will manage the testing schedule and review results to ensure all products meet quality standards before release. This role also involves investigating anomalous results, halting processes when necessary, and leading investigative work in response to customer complaints. Additionally, the Principal Operations Technician is responsible for equipment maintenance, validation, and training other staff members to maintain operational standards.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- As part of the Operational team, to carry out the routine testing and quality control of the range of immunodiagnostics products.
- Complete routine quality control testing on raw materials, bulk solutions and finished product, in accordance with cGMP and GLP, to ensure the quality of Biovue cassettes manufactured at Pencoed.
- Organise testing plan within shift to complete all testing required for batch dispense and release.
- Participate in shopfloor work-flow planning, including weekly planning and interfacing between work groups.
- Be accountable for secondary review of completed testing results.
- Apply final verdict to allow product to be released. Review completed EBR records and review logs as applicable.
- Issue material to applicable jobs to ensure area financial control is maintained.
- Identify any anomalous results and perform first level investigation work in line with area reaction plans.
- Empowered to halt processes and raise deviation records following anomalous observations.
- Design of experiment and perform investigative work in response to customer complaints.
- Write and design testing reports for completed investigation work.
- Perform and report NEQAS testing.
- Maintenance of personal and operational training plans, modules and frameworks in accordance with the Training Certification Program.
- Lead training of staff and maintain training records.
- Operate, calibrate and perform routine manual operations for testing instruments.
- Take ownership of equipment validation and qualification
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Scientific degree or relevant laboratory experience
- Experience working in Haematology laboratory and/or relevant experience within QuidelOrtho.
- Planning – Demonstrates a good working knowledge of the proactive application of planning tools for themselves and others
- Organising – Manages work and time effectively to maximise business results.
- Problem solving – Demonstrates competent structured problem-solving skills.
- Communication – Uses appropriate tools and techniques to communicate with peers and line management within and across function.
- Knowledge of QO franchise and Biovue product specifically and its impact on patients
- Teamwork – ability to work effectively in groups and as an individual.
- Detailed technical knowledge of Biovue products and their associated processes and procedures is required
