Laboratory Scientist I

As QuidelOrtho continues to grow, we are seeking to appoint a Laboratory Scientist I to join our Product Support department in Pencoed on a fixed term basis. This role will work a standard days shift pattern.

About QuidelOrtho, Pencoed

QuidelOrtho has been manufacturing products in South Wales for over 40 years. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, based in Pencoed, employs over 600 people who are involved in the manufacture and supply of clinical laboratory and immunohematology products to sites across the globe.

Our Pencoed team manufacture a large menu of immunohematology products used in transfusion medicine; in addition to a large menu of immunoassay products encompassing a range of disease categories.

On site we have a range of functions operating globally & locally. All our employees are working towards one common goal, to help save and improve lives through diagnostics.

Your new role:

Reporting to the Product Support lead, the Laboratory Scientist 1 role provides the opportunity to understand and develop skills in all aspects of Product Support technical roles participating as part of a laboratory team, and/or project team. The key activities undertaken in this role will include developing a working knowledge to conduct a combination of: a) relevant hands-on practical work as part of the general support function of the Product Support department, using multiple analytical techniques and instrumentation within the laboratory; and/ or b) using project techniques or c) investigational tools.

Individuals will perform interpretation and analysis of scientific data and on occasion may take the opportunity to present data to an audience. They will ensure that the laboratory is operating in accordance with all relevant quality, compliance and safety systems and all quality documentation practises are followed.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Complete Work Requests
  • Use of VITROS analysers
  • Analyse scientific data
  • Use of Analytical tools and instrumentation
  • Use of Investigational tools
  • Generate reports to document work completed
  • Perform other work duties as assigned

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Degree educated in relevant Scientific discipline
  • Computer literate, good laboratory practical skills, can record experimental work accurately and at a minimum perform data manipulation and analysis
  • Experienced in performing laboratory work and use of a range of statistical (Minitab or equivalent) tools during investigations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan own time and work effectively, can reshape plans accordingly.
  • Prior experience with AKTA chromatography systems desired
