We're looking for a Economist to join our Economics, Finance, Marketingdirectorate.This role can be based at any of our office locations: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, York, Glasgow. At ORR we have adopted hybrid working and are currently expected to work from a workplace location for a minimum of40%.
The Office of Rail and Road (ORR)isthe independent economicand safetyregulator for Britain's railways and monitor of performance on England's strategic road network.

The Regulatory Finance team is part of the EFM directorate and works closely with the Rail Economics team, which carries out economic analysis to develop rail policy.We monitor and report on financial matters and respond to requests for advice. Much of our current work focuses on Network Rail’s funding, financial performance, and delivery of efficiencies.
The rail industry is now preparing for significant change, with Great British Railways (GBR) being established to take on unified responsibility for infrastructure currently owned by Network Rail, as well as passenger services currently commissioned by the Department for Transport. As outlined inthe Government’s Railways Bill,GBR will oversee day‑to‑day operational delivery, including service provision, timetabling, network access, and the operations, maintenance and renewal of infrastructure. ORR will have a key role in monitoring, investigating and reporting on GBR’s operational and financial performance.
As an Economist, you will support the Regulatory Finance and Rail Economics teams in delivering high-quality economic analysis that influences decision‑making and policy development in UK rail regulation.
