We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to become a valued member of our Teaching and Learning Team at Ormiston Queensmill Academy. We are seeking a proactive and compassionate individual to support the educational and emotional development of our students. This role is vital for implementing strategies that support pupil regulation, support emotional wellbeing and enhance learning outcomes for students.

The successful candidate will complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision in line with Ormiston policies and guidance. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short‑term for whole classes. It may also involve the monitoring of learners and assessment, recording and reporting on attendance, achievement, behaviour, progress and development.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs or equivalent (Grade C or above) in English and Maths.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning / HLTA professional standards or working towards.
  • Experience working with children, ideally those with autism or additional needs.
  • Knowledge of sensory processing, autism strategies and strategies that promote engagement and regulation.
  • Excellent communication skills and a calm, adaptable approach to support.
  • Skills in using ICT to support learning and record progress.
  • A desire to learn, grow, and be part of a high-performing team.

About the Academy

Ormiston Queensmill Academy caters for children and young people with autism and other specific learning difficulties. We are extremely fortunate to be based in purpose-built facilities designed to deliver a spacious, low-arousal learning environment with excellent autism-specific facilities and resources, allowing us to manage our young people’s needs effectively. Our curriculum is highly differentiated and focuses on delivering a wide range of experiences, with an emphasis on improving the mental health and wellbeing of our young people. Ormiston Queensmill Academy is a fun and rewarding place to work and happiness and wellbeing is an absolute priority for both our young people and staff team.

We are looking to appoint someone who is interested in developing their career within our academy environment and is keen to develop their knowledge of Autism as well as being passionate about supporting autistic pupils to access education both within the school and in the local community.
