George Salter Academy are seeking to appoint an ambitious, values-driven and highly skilled Assistant Principal for Inclusion (SENDCo) to join the Senior Leadership Team in September 2026. This is a pivotal role for a leader who believes passionately in inclusion and is committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of need or starting point, can succeed. As Assistant Principal - Inclusion (SENDCo), you will provide strategic leadership for inclusion and SEND across the academy, shaping an inclusive culture where high expectations and appropriate support go hand in hand. You will have overall responsibility for SEND provision and will act as the academy’s designated SENDCo.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading the strategic development and day-to-day management of SEND and inclusion across the academy
  • Fulfilling the statutory duties of the SENDCo in line with the SEND Code of Practice
  • Overseeing provision for students with SEND needs and those requiring additional or alternative support
  • Ensuring high-quality, inclusive teaching and learning through staff training, coaching and support
  • Working closely with pastoral leaders, families and external agencies to remove barriers to learning
  • Using data and evaluation to monitor impact and drive continuous improvement
  • Contributing to whole-school leadership, self-evaluation and improvement planning as a member of SLT

  • Is an outstanding practitioner with a strong moral purpose
  • Has significant experience of SEND and inclusion in a secondary school setting
  • Holds the NASENCO or NPQ SENCO qualification
  • Has a secure understanding of SEND legislation and inclusive practice
  • Is resilient, reflective and solutions-focused
  • Is able to build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, families and external professionals
  • Is committed to equity, inclusion and safeguarding
