This role plays a pivotal role in managing and expanding client relationships, particularly within the metal/commodities sector. This position demands a deep understanding of LME/commodities market dynamics, exceptional client management skills, and the ability to drive business growth.
Main Duties of the Role:
- Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, understanding their needs and ensuring satisfaction. Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships to foster client loyalty and retention. Offer market insights, research, and strategic advice to clients.
- Business Development: Promote brokerage services to prospective corporate and institutional clients. Identify new business opportunities to upsell and cross-sell products and services. Drive revenue growth by expanding existing client accounts and onboarding new clients. Complete detailed meeting reports after visiting existing or prospective customers in a timely manner.
- Trade Execution & Market Operations: Execute trades on behalf of clients in compliance with LME regulations and risk controls. Monitor and manage client positions, ensuring efficient trade execution. Ensure accurate and timely trade booking, reconciliation, and reporting. Monitor client margin call payment behavior to ensure timely funding of margin requirements and adherence to credit risk policies. Liaise with clients and internal credit/risk teams to manage margin calls, ensuring prompt action on margin shortfalls. Identify clients at risk of default, escalating concerns to compliance and risk management teams. Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding funding expectations, collateral requirements, and potential risk exposures. Assist clients in understanding and managing their leverage, collateral, and funding obligations under LME margin rules.
- Market Analysis & Strategy: Monitor global commodity markets trends, industry development, supply-demand trends, and macroeconomic factors affecting commodities pricing. Stay informed about regulatory changes. Provide clients with insights and advice to help them navigate the commodities markets effectively. Collaborate with traders to develop trading ideas and hedging strategies for clients.
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all client interactions and transactions comply with internal policies, risk management frameworks, and regulatory requirements. Maintain detailed records of transactions and client interactions for audit and compliance reporting purposes. Conduct client due diligence (CDD), KYC reviews, and ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance with FCA, LME, and AML regulations. Identify and escalate potential financial crime risks, suspicious transactions, or unusual trading patterns.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including trading, operations, risk and compliance, to ensure seamless client onboarding and service delivery. Communicate client feedback and requirements to inform product development and service enhancements.
Key skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Business, or related fields.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in commodities trading, brokerage, or financial markets is preferred.
- Strong understanding of commodities derivatives trading, particularly base metals.
- Experience with LME trading platforms and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and client management skills.
- Proven ability to develop strategic relationships and drive business growth.
- Ability to analyze market trends and provide strategic advice.
- Proficiency in trading platforms and risk management tools.
- FCA regulatory certifications (e.g., CISI qualifications) are preferred.
