Westray Junior High School is looking for a positive and enthusiastic individual to help deliver the Childsmile Toothbrushing Programme for children. The post will involve organising and supervising children brushing their teeth, as part of the NHS Orkney Childsmile Toothbrushing Programme. You will work on your own supervising children brushing their teeth, but you will have regular contact with the NHS Orkney Oral Health Team. While your role is not to brush children’s teeth, you will be there to encourage the children to brush their teeth well and develop this important lifetime habit.
Appropriate and relevant experience of working with young children is essential, as is awareness and ability to follow health and safety, infection control and confidentiality guidance. The hours are worked around school timetables and breaks, four days per week. You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
This post is subject to a Level 2 Disclosure Check with PVG for working in a regulated role with protected children.
Prospective applicants are invited to contact Karyn Tait, Oral Health Team Lead, NHS Orkney for further details, at the Dental Department, The Balfour, Kirkwall, KW15 1NZ on 01856 888258 or to karyn.tait@nhs.scot.
Closing Date: 23:59 on Sunday 15 February 2026. Please note that interview expenses are not payable for this post.
