Profile of Role
The Shop Assistant is responsible for delivering first-class customer service by understanding customers’ needs and helping them choose products that suit their preferences. The role supports the wider retail team but will also involve working independently in the shop.
Holiday Cover
To cover mid-week mornings from 9.30am – 2.00pm for a total of approximately 7 weeks per annum, or as and when required for sickness/emergency cover.
Job Overview
- To assist customers with their product choices and to give any advice, as required.
- To replenish stock on shop shelves when items have been sold.
- To help keep the shop clean and tidy and ensure the shop floor is kept dry on wet days to prevent accidents.
- Put up flood defence barriers at the end of day if required.
- Willing to learn about the products and participate in monthly quizzes to improve product knowledge and stay up to date.
Additional Responsibilities When Providing Supervisor Cover
- To ensure the till always has enough change.
- To put any delivered stock upstairs to keep the shop floor clear.
- To ensure the shop is always clean including the shelves and floor.
- To swap shelf labels over when any special offers are in place.
- To make the relevant person know if any problems occur or of any price errors.
- To cash up at the end of business, including the banking and securely close the shop.
