Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and actively process end-to-end UK payroll including starters, leavers, and changes.
- Manage overtime, allowances, bonuses, and deductions.
- Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation including PAYE, NI, pensions (auto-enrolment), and statutory payments.
- Supervise, support, and coach a small payroll team ensuring workloads are managed effectively.
- Review and approve payroll outputs, reconciliations, and variance checks.
- Act as the main escalation point for complex payroll queries from employees and stakeholders.
- Prepare pension files and statutory reports.
- Manage year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds.
- Maintain payroll controls documentation and procedures.
- Liaise with HMRC, pension providers, and third-party payroll vendors as required.
- Support payroll audits and internal reviews.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience supervising or senior-level experience in UK payroll.
- Strong hands-on experience with full end-to-end payroll processing.
- In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, pensions, statutory payments).
- Experience managing or mentoring a small payroll team.
- Desirable Experience: Payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent).
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms.
