An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Yard Manager to join a well-established and expanding manufacturer in Peterborough. We're looking for a hands-on Yard Manager with strong leadership skills, forklift experience and a proven ability to organise busy operational environments.
The successful Yard Manager will be responsible for overseeing yard operations, stock control, logistics coordination and goods movement across multiple sites located within close proximity. This role would suit a proactive Yard Manager who enjoys solving problems, improving processes and leading from the front. The business is continuing to grow and needs a Yard Manager who can bring structure, efficiency and accountability to the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day yard activities
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of 4 operatives
- Oversee goods in, goods out and stock management
- Ensure products are correctly stored and easily accessible
- Coordinate movement of stock between nearby sites
- Support loading and unloading activities
- Operate a forklift when required
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Improve productivity and operational efficiency
- Work closely with production and logistics departments
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience as a Yard Manager, Yard Supervisor, Yard Controller or Logistics Supervisor
- Experience managing or supervising teams
- Strong yard, logistics or stores background
- Forklift experience is essential
- Licence preferred but not required
- Experience dealing with large, bulky or non-palletised products
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong stock control and goods movement experience
- Ability to identify and implement operational improvements
